WHY IS THE EAR buzzing frequently?

Buzzing ears often interfere with activities. It turns out that habits like using headphones to listen to music is one of the causes. What are the causes of buzzing ears?

Buzzing ears have the term tinnitus in the world of health. Tinnitus is not a disease, but a symptom of hearing loss. Generally tinnitus is not a symptom of a serious condition, but can interfere with activity. To treat tinnitus can be done if you already know the cause.

What causes buzzing ears?
The most common cause of tinnitus is due to listening to loud sounds for a long time. Loud sounds that are heard cause permanent damage to sound-sensitive cells from the cochlea (a spiral-shaped organ in the inner ear). Some professions such as aircraft technicians, musicians, carpenters, pilots have a greater risk of experiencing tinnitus. Exposure to very loud sounds suddenly can also cause tinnitus.
Here are some common causes of tinnitus:

  • Age factor
  • For many people, increasing age can have an impact on hearing deterioration which generally starts around the age of 60 years. Hearing loss that occurs can cause tinnitus.
  • Exposure to Loud Noises
  • A common source of loud noise is portable music devices such as iPods, cellphones, or laptops. Listening to music loudly through headphones for a long time can cause tinnitus. Exposure to loud noise in the short or long term has the same risk of causing permanent damage.
  • Blockage of Earwax
  • Earwax has the benefit of keeping dirt and bacteria from entering the ear canal outside. When too much earwax builds up and is difficult to clean it can cause hearing loss or irritation to the eardrum which causes tinnitus.
  • Changes in the Ear Bone
  • Hardening of bones in the middle ear (otosclerosis) can affect hearing and cause tinnitus. This condition is caused by abnormal bone growth and is generally due to genetic factors.
  • In addition, certain health conditions can cause tinnitus such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, circulatory disorders, anemia, allergies, thyroid gland problems, autoimmune disorders and diabetes.

Certain medications that are being consumed can cause or worsen the condition of tinnitus. Generally, the greater the dose consumed, the more likely the emergence of tinnitus. Tinnitus will usually stop when the drug stops taking. Some drugs that can cause tinnitus:

  • Antibiotics such as erythromycin, vancomycin, and neomycin
  • Cancer treatment
  • Diuretic drugs such as furosemide
  • Malaria treatment therapy
  • Antidepressant treatment
  • Take aspirin in high doses for more than 12 days

How to prevent it?
In many cases, tinnitus occurs due to causes that cannot be prevented. However, some precautions can help prevent certain types of tinnitus.

Using Hearing Protection

  1. Over time, exposure to loud noise can damage the nerves in the ear, causing hearing loss and tinnitus. Using hearing protection is one way to prevent.
  2. Turn down the Music Volume
  3. Long-term exposure to loud music without ear protection or listening to music with very high volume through headphones can cause hearing loss and tinnitus.
  4. Maintaining Cardiovascular Health
  5. Regular exercise and eating food properly is an effort to keep blood vessels healthy. Preventing blood vessel disorders can also prevent the occurrence of tinnitus.
